Fremont was incorporated in 1956. Located in Alameda County Fremont was formed from the merger of five smaller communities, Centerville, Niles, Irvington, Mission San Jose, and Warm Springs. Fremont’s population is over 213,000. Fremont was once the home of NUMMI, a car manufacture joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. However, in 2010 the plant shut its doors. Recently, part of the plant was acquired by Tesla Motors as its primary production plant. Fremont is also known for its high ranking public schools.
