Albany’s population is just over 16,000 and was named after Albany, NY, the birthplace of its first mayor. Albany was incorporated in 1908, in order to prevent the dumping of trash from the neighboring residents of Berkeley. Golden Gate Fields, the only horse racing track in the Bay Area, is located in Albany. Visitors of Albany can view magnificent images of the Golden Gate Bridge.
